A porridge made out of rice, very easy to prepare and digest. Congee has been used for years in the traditional medicine as a treatment for digestive inflammations and diarrhea. Works very well as part of a natural treatment for Crohn's and Ulcerative colitis, during acute flare-ups.
Ingredients:
A cup of white rice (preferably round) washed well and soaked for about 3 hours before cooking.
6-8 glasses of water (the more, the better),
2 teaspoons of turmeric powder,
1 teaspoon of cumin,
1 teaspoon of Himalayan salt
Optional:
2 peeled and diced carrots,
2 zucchini, peeled and cut into cubes.
You can also make a sweet version with a teaspoon of cinnamon and honey.
Instructions:
Cook the rice with the spices for 3 hours in a regular pot, or for half an hour in a pressure cooker.
* If you add honey - it is advisable to add it only after the porridge has cooled down a little.
